Many times. Yes, I've caught small lake trout and rainbow trout and yellow perch. For lakers you would need a boat, sinking lines, big streamer patterns and lots of luck. You should find rainbows on the usual--but buggers are definitely in the zone. And, yes, weedlines as per a prior post. And in shallower water, you should find plenty of willing yellow perch, which is a nice mid-day diversion, especially if kids are involved.

But, if you're there for a few days, let me give you another idea! Just to the northeast and joined by a stream between is Johnson Reservoir (aka Johnson Valley Reservoir). When I last fished there, it was a mediocre put-and-take rainbow trout fishery. Now, there are tiger muskies. (Link attached.)

My brother was perch fishing the stream in between Johnson and Fish Lake a couple of years ago when a tiger muskie surprised him (aaaaaand, bit through the line).

Yes, I'd fish Fish Lake, but I'd drive on up to Johnson, as well. Beautiful country.

The Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing Program at Walter Reed needs someone to teach fly tying to wounded warriors. The Program meets from 12:00 – 1:00 every Wednesday at Walter Reed Hospital in Bethesda. If you have a Defense Department ID for base access that is a positive, but if you don’t we can work it out. You might consider also taking an inflatable PFD just in case. There is a six to eight foot tide in that part of the cape. You need to wade out at low water and you might have a 2 hour window to fish.

One thing to consider on the Cape is beach access. Many beaches are residents only. Most of the others are ~$20 to park. My experience is mainly mid Cape (town of Barnstable and Yarmouth).

You generally can't fish at most of the beaches if they're touristy, so find whatever backwoods areas you can, or plan for dawn and dusk if you hit some of the more populated areas. But, inlets and most jetties will generally be ok if you have to fish during the day - just may not be a ton of action.

If you're staying in Chatham, I don't recommend Sandwich. You're in peak tourist season, and that drive could take WAY longer than Google Maps tells you now.

Well, I haven't been there...yet. I am going there for the first time next week and hope to wade fish Monomoy myself.

I did find a shuttle service to North Monomoy for $30 http://outermostharbor.com/services/beach-shuttle/. They take you out in the morning and pick you up at 4:30 pm. Hopefully I will have a Monomoy report for you in a week.

I too am interested in advice on wading the Brewster flats, so thanks to all for the info.

Also, can anyone steer me to a good night fishing spot?

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Fish Lake, UT

Fish lake is home waters for me as I grew up in Utah county. You will want to focus your time on the humps on the northern part of the lake if you are going for lakers. Large tube jigs in white and light green are usually the ticket. They will be down 60-80 feet. Slow and steady wins the race, expect long days of jigging. On the fly rod there will be splake and lots of perch along the weedlines about 20 feet out. Should be a fun trip, it is a beautiful place!
