The Tidal Potomac Slam– A Catch, Photo and Release Tournament

The National Capital Chapter of Trout Unlimited, The Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders and CCA Maryland's Greater Washington Chapter are proud to present the first annual Tidal Potomac Slam fishing tournament. A multi-week event, compete for great prizes and bragging rights, while helping to support Friends of Fletcher's Cove in its quest to restore the Cove and protect this unique urban fishing resource for generations to come.

Sponsored by Sweetwater Brewing, RepYourWater, District Angling, Costa Sunglasses, and Engel Coolers, the Tidal Potomac Slam is a celebration of the arrival of spring and all of the migratory species that return each year to our Nation's River! So join the fun and get in on this year's Shadness Madness!

Divisions
Fly Shore & Boat – Striped Bass, American Shad, Hickory Shad, & Wildcard
Spin Shore & Boat - Striped Bass, American Shad, Hickory Shad, & Wildcard

Format and Rules
Catch, Photo, & Release
o   All fish must be caught on artificial and flies only (no bait).
o   All fish must be caught on the Potomac River from the Woodrow Wilson Bridge to Little Falls Spillway. Tributaries are excluded.
o   There is no minimum size limit for target species but all fish caught must be submitted to iAngler the day they are caught and safely released*  to qualify.

o   All photo entries must be submitted to iAngler with acceptable ruler in clear view. Unclear images will be up to the judges' discretion.
o   Participants can fish for both divisions, but cannot cross-pollinate (ie a spin-caught fish cannot be entered into fly category).

*Follow proper catch & release practices and handle fish with care at all times. Avoid stressing fish by bringing the fish to your boat as quickly as possible. If possible, please "keep 'em wet". If not, please ensure that your hands are wetted prior to handling a fish and do not rest a fish on the ground or surface of the boat. Photographs of fish in the water are sufficient, provided the ruler is visible and provides an accurate measurement of the fishes length. You do not need to use the iAngler App to photograph the fish. If faster, you should photograph the fish on your phone or camera and later import the photo into the iAngler app.

Prizes
o   Individual Category Winners (8 winners, 4-Fly, 4-Spin)*
- Largest (by length) Striped Bass, American Shad, Hickory Shad, & Wildcard (all other species caught)
- Winners receive trophy and sponsor prize pack (further details to come)
o   Slam Champ (2 winners)*
-  Fly & Spin - highest total combined inches of largest specimen for each target species
- Winners receive trophy and sponsor division prize pack (further details to come)
o   Champion of the Potomac - Grand Champ (1 winner)*
Largest total slam (fly & spin) in combined inches.
-  Winner receives large trophy and sponsor grand prize pack (further details to come)

*Each contestant can only win 1 prize/prize package
(i.e. the Champion of the Potomac cannot also win Division Slam package and/or Category package)

Greetings to all of my Beloved TPFRers!!!

First, I want to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the club (belated by one day anyway).  April 1 officially marked 9 YEARS since the club was founded!!!  I also want to thank all of you for keeping it alive and going so strong!!!  I still get my daily dose of TPFR threads via email, and I continue to live and fish the Nation's River vicariously through you all every day! Please know how truly proud I am of you and of what you have made the club.  It makes me smile so big every time I see another new poster looking for info, and that info being provided in such a positive, knowledgeable, and welcoming way.  Well done to you all!!

The other thing I wanted to mention is I'm HEADING YOUR WAY!!!  I need to be at the Orvis Guide Rendezvous in Asheville, NC next week, so rather than flying there, Melody and I decided to load up the kids and road-trip it instead!  We'll only be in the area be for a super narrow window of time, but of course it means an opportunity to hit Fletcher's and catch some Shad along the way!  So, just a heads up that I plan to be there Saturday from around 6AM to 12PM or so.  After that I'll likely swing by my old shop just to say hey to a few folks before heading farther South.  We plan to be in Richmond that night, and then on to NC the next day.  It will be awesome to see some of you on the River if you're out there.  I so wish I could make it to BEER TIE on Monday, but my duties start on Tuesday in Asheville, so I'll have to miss it.  Someday soon though!

Anyway, I just wanted to give you all a heads up, and I look forward to seeing some of you on Saturday, like old times!!

All the Very Best,

Dan

OH - and I took up Skateboarding again!!  It's my much needed creative outlet from all the stresses of fly fishing!
