Carl,
I just had a very productive couple of days on mossy creek with a greenie weenie! I got a lot of smaller fish and a couple big boys gave it a try as well! Bonus that it's super easy to tie!

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Beer Tie Next Monday and 2018 Beer Tie Dates

I've been slacking keeping our calendar up to date, but Rob has locked in our Beer Ties for 2018, and Whitlow's has graciously agreed to host us another year. Here are the dates, with website update forthcoming:
Jan 8th
Feb 12th
March 12th
April 9th
May 14th
June 11th
July 9th
August 13th
September 10th
October 8th (Columbus day)
November 12th (Veterans day)
December 10th

Our first Beer Tie of 2018 is coming up next Monday, January 8 at Whitlows on Wilson in the Sandbar. Doors open at 6pm and we get the boot at 10pm. As always, burgers are half-priced and we'll have a beer special.

Rob will be teaching Rainbow Warriors at the learning table, starting at 7pm. These flies work really well for tailwater trout in the winter, and I'm sure they're effective other times as well.

Look forward to seeing everyone out next week.

I've been playing with game changers a bit, just tied my first feather version. Probably also work on some musky patterns. Would like to get into deer hair as well, but may just stick with foam poppers for now.

I was going to try some Patriots (Charlie Meck flys) and then try to get my woven nymph techniques back in shape. Something like this.

I've recently enjoyed spinning and packing deer hair. I'd love to start catching some larger browns (as I know they are in many streams I fish, but I usually pick on the small guys) therefore I am trying to tie more articulated, deer hair headed streamers like sex dungeons and cheeky sculpins. I do need to restock my go-to shenandoah dries like the royal wulff, parachute mr. raps, and hoppers, but I find I greatly enjoy articulated streamer tying.

I used to live and fish the SOBX, Cape Lookout area and they are having a pretty good fish kill right now to. Not much going on in the surf zone even if it were not rteally cold..

Abbie, I wouldn't recommend wading on mossy creek. the creek bed is a mad of clay and you'll almost certainly sink as soon as you step foot in the stream. If you're looking for an alternative to full chest waders some companies make convertible chest waders that will fold down and become pant waders. hope you find this helpful.

I had orvis waders that can be worn as pants or chest waders. I would try on different brands. Fit is everything.
