Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Snakehead

They're thick in Roaches Run. I was there this morning and saw plenty. Heard of a few caught, too, but I wasn't so lucky.

I did see a few breach completely out of the water, though. That was pretty cool!

Good luck catching them, but the guys bass fishing do seem to catch them.

Anyone seen or targeted NSH yet this year?  If so, have you had any luck?  I'm still trying to find some snakehead to target and, as of yet, I haven't seen any in any of the tidal creeks on the MD side, to include Mattowoman.  Not sure where the majority of these guys hang out, but I guess I'll just have to put more time on the water to get into some.

Hugh, what were you using? Hit it this AM with limited success on deceiver and clousers. Very high turbidity on inflow from Potomac.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Anyone Need a Raft?

I have to part with my raft.  Here are the details:
Star Raft with custom fishing frame. The raft is a 13 foot, self bailer and has casting platforms in the front and rear for anglers. Not used at all last year and only twice the year before, so I need it to go to a good home. I'm selling it complete with the oars, anchor, and anchor line. The Cataract Oars sell for about $450 and a comparable frame is $650. A new raft will run you over $3k without the frame, oars, or anchor/anchor line! I have it posted to Craigslist if you want to take a look.  I included a quick pic since I pulled it out today and cleaned it off.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Snakehead

Thanks for the info.  I'll have to get the 'yak out and paddle around some more.  Maybe I'll head across the river to Belmont Bay.  Thanks again.

I am not an expert, by far, but I have caught 2 on the flyrod.  I caught them in special circumstances.

Lately I have been chasing them in Belmont Bay.  Specifically, Kane's Creek.  They like weeds, lots of weeds.  I heard of it as they really like having a roof over their head.  They also tend to be in shallow water.

The only way to access a lot of the water to fish for them is by boat.  I have also heard that their population is down due to harvesting them.

Good luck

Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Snakehead

I was out fishing with my son where Rock Creek meets the Potomac, and we saw one right behind Thompson's boat house.
