Nice fish.

There is a certain Colombian contingent that stays relatively humble and quiet here on TPFR that spent the weekend up there (before the brown water came a-rollin’ in) who also had a good time.

For the record one of my favorite things is the iridescent blue cheek mark that bigger wild browns get.

Hey guys,

Kyle and I headed up to the Little Juniata this weekend, and ended up hitting the Sulphur hatch perfectly. We had a phenomenal day of fishing on Saturday, but got rained out on Friday (I should say, not exactly rained out, because Kyle did weather the rain, whereas I headed to a cabin. I just mean to say the water flow bumped up dramatically).

I wrote up the day of fishing on my blog. Keep an eye out for a link to expanded content, as well. Hope yall enjoy!

Hi Lisa,

Two spots which are good wading : Violettes Lock off River Rd. in Montgomery County MD. And Harper's Ferry area about an 1 hrs 15min from the DC area, not far from Frederick, MD.You may want too use a PFD, your first couple of times wading , at least until you good feel for the River. I've been fishing the Potomac since I was in High School and usually don't start wading till Memorial Day Weekend. You have a good selection of flies to start with, if you can add some C.K. Baitfish to your arsenal of flies. I would personally use the 8wt.

The river usually doesn't get this low until mid summer, but if you do go out there, go with a friend, a wading staff and it is a good idea to wear a pfd. Until then, fishing from the bank and outlying rocks around the chain bridge area and above Fletchers can yield some pretty good shad and striper catches.

Nope. The low water levels (that now appear to be gone) meant I was able to wade pretty much straight across the river, although it was pretty chancy in the thalweg of the riffle. Definitely a huge help to carry a wading staff on smallie rivers like the Potomac.
