Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Fly Fishing in Nashville, TN

Have fished Land Between Lakes a couple times. really good fishing in the summer but i'm sure there's several options closer to the city.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Fly Fishing in Nashville, TN

I had a good friend that lived there and we tried to fish one of the times I visited, and in general I think the fishing there is worse than the DC area. I've only fished the Duck River in that area, which was about an hour away, the water was stained and silty when we tried, fishing was not good. My friend occasionally hit the Caney Fork for trout, and the tailwater of Percy Priest lake for carp and bass. If I were in Nashville, I would opt to close down The Stage and sleep it off instead of fishing.

Another thought would be to take the 4-hour drive to the South Holston, pushing the limits for a day trip but fishing may be epic.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: BEER TIE, BEER TIE, BEER TIE TONIGHT (AND TPFR 4-YEAR ANNIVERSARY PARTY)!!!!!

Super excited to see everyone at Whitlow's in a few short hours.  Remember, tonight we are celebrating our 4th Birthday and raising funds for the coming season.  Tax-deductible donations of any amount are welcome and appreciated and receipts are available on the spot.  We'll have a great raffle as always, TPFR Hats for $20, and NEW TPFR Stickers for $2 each or 3 for $5.

New also tonight is our Whiskey Tasting event.  Neale Walker will be representing three great offerings, one local, one from a few states over, and one from the other side of the globe.  The spirits of choice tonight are:

Bowman Brothers Bourbon from Virginia
Buffalo Trace Bourbon from where else but Kentucky
And Yamazaki 12 Year Single Malt all the way from Japan.

Liquor tasting will work as follows.  For $15 you will get a generous pour of each and Neale will tell you all about them.  $5 more gets you a full glass of your favorite, a TPFR Sticker, and 2 raffle tickets.  Simply put, BRING $20 if you want to participate in the liquor tasting event.  If this goes well, expect great new offerings every month!

I just got back from setting up, and I plan to be over there by 6PM, so get there early.  Happy hour ends at 7PM, but half price burgers are all night!

See you at the party!

This is a reminder to all that the next TPFR BEER TIE is tonight, Monday, April 1, from 7PM-9PM (which by now you all know means 6PM-10PM!) at Whitlow's on Wilson!!!!  Details and Directions to Whitlow's can be found on our TPFR EVENTS PAGE.  This is a particularly special BEER TIE because it is also the exact night Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders turns 4-years old!  Hard to believe I know, and it is now hard to even imagine the D.C. fly fishing scene without it.  Thank you all for continuing to make TPFR what it is!

A few stats - we close out our fourth year with 1013 registered members (and who knows how many non-registered readers).  Our forum is more active than ever with over 600 posts in the month of March alone and nearly 1500 this year so far!  Thank you to all who regularly contribute - you have helped make the TPFR Forum the real time pulse for our local fishery and a truly incredible resource for all.

We plan to pilot a new program for our fifth year this evening as well, and yes, it involves alcohol (is that bad?).  To help us ring in a new TPFR year, we are pleased to have Neale Walker with us who is an area rep for a wide range of Scotch and Whiskey distributors, and he will have a few of his favorite offerings available to try out.  We plan to fund raise a bit off of this, so there will be a small ticket fee to partake in the tasting.  If you like a particular spirit, please consider purchasing a glass from the bar to support our host (Whitlow's) as well.  If things go well with this tonight, expect to see Neale and his choice libations at many future BEER TIES!

Additionally, our anniversary party is typically when we "pass the plate" for a Spring Fund Raiser, so please bring an offering if you can in cash or check form.  Melody has official TPFR letterhead donation receipts that she can give you for tax purposes right on the spot.  As you know, whatever you give will only be poured right back into the club, so helping us helps you!  We'll have a raffle as usual, so bring cash for a few tickets ($1 for 1 ticket or $5 for 6).

I am also SUPER EXCITED to report that we now have some awesome, high quality TPFR stickers for sale for $2 each or $5 for 3.  Did I ever tell you I like stickers!  Be sure to buy  few and put them everywhere - rod tubes, stripping baskets, strangers cars, Metro stations, etc.  We also have TPFR hats in stock again, in any color you want as long as it's brown (other options presently on back order).  Hats are $20 each.

I am looking forward to a record crowd tonight at Whitlow's.  I know the Nats are playing, but that's a daytime game.  Consider it a warm up for the main event - BEER TIE!

Happy 4th Birthday TPFR!!!!!!!!!

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Fly Fishing in Nashville, TN

I'm headed to Nashville, TN in a couple of weeks to visit family. It looks like I'll have the chance to sneak away for a day to fish. Has anyone fished in or around Nashville? Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: BEER TIE, BEER TIE, BEER TIE TONIGHT (AND TPFR 4-YEAR ANNIVERSARY PARTY)!!!!!

Here are the patterns we will tie at the learning table: Shad darts aka shad puff or egg sucking shad fly. What ever the name they are simple to tie, very few ingredients, and they catch fish. If anyone has a few feet of chartreuse or hot pink chenille to lend that would be great. I have a mile of purple to use as the heads.

Looking forward to my Avalanche burger tonight !

Okay, I'm going to try to make it!  We have slight transportation issues and I have a sprained ankle, but I've been angling for some new stickers!
