{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Weekend Rockfish

Parker and I made the trip down to VB for some rockfish. While sitting through work on friday, my phone was getting blown up with, "Where are you, fish are everywhere" and photos of 30-36 inch fish being caught casting.

Well it turned out we were a day late. We spent friday night + saturday afternoon searching that area. A couple nets around, lots of boats trolling and not many fish, especially for us (skunked).

We regrouped and took the kayaks out which proved to be more successful. Although the fish werent as active as they normally are this time of the year (full moon), we got a decent amount. Oh and a handful of hickory shad...but not nearly as feisty as in the spring. Had 3 in a row on one fly before I decided I had enough "stripers" flying out of the water and resulting in hickory shads. Guess they like silversides too.

Aaron and Terry,

Exactly where do you go on Tidal Basin? I fished there a few months back, beautiful warm summer night, on east side of Basin near bridge, probably 100-150 yds west of Jefferson Memorial.

Any other suggestions for good locations there?

I second the Tidal Basin idea. There are fish in there and its a great visual if there not biting. I would just be very cognative of your back cast and the amount of tourists walking by. If you fish to the side of the Jefferson memorial (right side if your looking at it with the water behind you) you would have more space for back casting and less tourist walking by. Just dont mind the duck droppings. This is also a great spot for sunset as the sunset is right in front of you. I would just plan on fishing the in coming or out going but skip the high tide (the water will be over the ledge and give you less space for casting).

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Big Hunting Creek

Took a drive up to B.H.C today. Fished from 11:00 - 3:00. Managed to catch 2 nice browns about 8 " and several small fingerlings about 3" on a zebra midge dropper off a BWO dry. All takes on the midge. Fished above the parking lot across from the park office. Also tried out my new waders I bought last week. Nice to have dry feet at the end of the day. Looks like Sandy hit hard up there, a lot of trees down, especially in the lower section. Nice weather, scenery, and had the place to myself. Saw one other guy on the lower section.

I don't dare eating mushrooms in the US.... grew up in Italy and we have a very similarly looking mushroom named Pleurotus eryngii. Very delicious.

I am afraid she won't sit still for that kind of brushing. Generally we can only get half the dog at one session. So your choice would left side or right side!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
