{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} club casting this Saturday

Club casting will be this Saturday morning at Fletcher's from 8-10 a.m.

We will have several instructors around to help out. I will bring several extra two handed rods and skagit lines.

I would bring some kind of eye protection, and waders are a good idea if you want to get in the river.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Maine fishing

Belfast is beautiful, I was up there earlier in the summer, sadly without my gear. Did you do any striper fishing while you were up there? One of my most fond memories growing up in Maine involves 5am fishing for Mackerel to be used as 6am striper bait.

I live in the Cascades near there. Algonquin is very grassy this time of year (you probably want to try to fish the surface to keep your fly/lure out of the grass. There is not alot of structure - the bottom and depth seems very consistent anywhere you wade from the boat ramp. - you will be wading in thick clumps of tall grass. I have done it. if you are at the boat ramp facing the river and walk to the right along the bank of the river for 1/2 a mile you will hit Sugarland run - a creek that flows into the Potomac. The mouth of Sugarland has some carp and there are often largemouth in Sugarland run. Many places are steep drop off so it is tough to wade Sugarland run.

At the mouth of Sugarland, there is some skinny water in the river itself. Not sure if you have to cross deep water to get to it. A lot of spin and bait fisherman fish from the bank - tough to do with a fly rod.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} DIY Welded Loops

I have been playing around with this since I read the article in FR&R. I have had some trial and error. I'm not ready to fish the loops yet as they have not come out that strong.

Just wondering if anyone else has tried a home made welded loop.
