{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Fletchers this evening (Wed 8/29)

I'm going to head over to Fletchers after work for some really casual fly fishing--basically shaking out my gear before taking it on a trip. Realize it's last minute, but if anyone is looking for an excuse to hit the river after work today, I'd love the company.

If you google around (image search, too). You can find all kinds of ideas for customizing and setting up your station. Fortunately, this is a sport where everyone likes to tinker on stuff, so there's a fair amount of information available.

Re New Mexico fishing out of Santa Fe, Cow Creek is a lovely piece of water and only an hour or so away by car Unfortunately, some of the best stretches run through two private ranches which charge hefty fishing fees. Cow Creek Ranch is an all-inclusive lodge experience. The Bar X Bar ranch (I think that's the name) has day fishing but requires (at least it used to) the use of a guide (at least for the first day.) Maybe this late in the season, the Bar X Bar would allow some self-guiding. Patterns on Cow Creek are not complicated because the fish aren't generally picky. The usual dry assortment works fine: Adams, blue-wing olive (cloudy or rainy days), terrestrials, olive, brown and black caddises; attractors like Humpy, Irresistible, Stimulator, Royal Wulff etc. and for nymphs, pheasant tails and Hare's Ears plus caddis larva are fine.

Soaked a strand for 3 hour and the color didn't bleed. I have not tied with antron so I haven't really looked at my spots. I'll keep my eyes peeled in the future.

Nice tying desk. I've had the need for a tying desk like that, but
yours looks practical and gives me some ideas.

I have some old Aunt Lydia's sparkle yarn, but was looking for some more
white antron. I've heard that there wasn't much demand for the antron
yarn from traditional sources, so it's now it's become much harder to
find other than the small packages at the fly shop.

I agree that there are some winners and some losers when it comes to
craft store materials. Knowing the brand helps some, but companies
change their suppliers over time and the quality can change.
