Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Canada or US DIY northern pike on the fly.....

There's a stable northern pike population in Lake Frederick near Front Royal.  People posting on the FB page for the bait shop there catch a few year including a couple of the pier.  I've even seen one caught myself in person.  They seem to be present and catchable but not super abundant.  I took a couple DIY shots on sinking line out of my kayak with no luck 9-10 years ago.

We can meet at Beer Tie in the future if you're interested in putting a trip together.  I also saw some at Motts Run Reservoir near Fredricksburg, the state record is from there, but that was literal decades ago.

Announcement
Recently, the TPFR Board of Directors voted to appoint me (Misha Gill) as President of TPFR. I'm thrilled to take on the leadership of this wonderful organization which I treasure, and which has been my "fishing home" for at least a decade now. I would like to take this opportunity to recognize and offer our sincere thanks to Mr. Regan Burmeister for his years of dedication to the club and his capable steering of the club's business through COVID and beyond. I'm sure I speak for all of us and say that we are all very grateful for your contributions, Regan!

The board of directors is presently:

Misha Gill
Ryan McCarron
Brook Rolter
Owen Williams
Miles Townes
Rob Snowhite
Daniel Lazenby
Mark Sofman

Thank you to the Board of Directors for your ongoing service to the club! If you are interested in volunteering or being on the board of directors, don't miss the form response box in the form below. We would welcome your participation.

MEMBERSHIP SURVEY
As incoming president, I am interested in collecting data on the way in which we can improve the club experience for all of us. My main goal is to increase attendance at casting church and beer tie, so that TPFR continues to serve as a community hub for all the colorful fishing personalities in our area. I'll never lose sight of the fact that the goal is to have fun, and my thought here is just, the more the merrier.

To that end, please consider completing the following survey to provide your feedback for how we can improve the club experience. There are some very important topics on there, like merchandise, venue for beer tie, "commercial activity" during club events, preferred platform for club discussions, should beer tie be pinned to casting church, etc. Please find and navigate to the form submission link below:

Your responses will help shape the future direction of the club. The board has a meeting in one week, and we will review the initial responses then, so get your responses in early to have a disproportionately large impact on our impressions for the direction we should take the club. We will close the survey for the board meeting on December 8th.

Thank you in advance, and I look forward to serving the club's membership. See you at beer tie, casting church, or on the water.

-Misha Gill

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: fall striper charter.....?

Peter if you haven't found anything yet, you can check with Scott Barmby and his team out of Chesapeake Beach, MD:
Chesapeake Bay Charters - Rock on Charter Fishing
Their prices are more in line with the market.  $1500 sounds like a "don't really wanna do it" rate for 2-3 on the Bay, even if you're just burning gas and trolling for 6-8 hours.  Scott runs the full day seminar style Orvis Fly Fishing Schools in the area.  I've fished with him and his guys twice and am pleased with the catch and their work.  They offer fly, spinning or bait.

Any info appreciated....

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} NCC-TU Chapter Meeting Wednesday, Oct 22 at AREC

Hi TPFR,

Next Wednesday at 7:30 pm, National Capital Chapter of Trout Unlimited is hosting a chapter meeting at the Aquatic Resources Education Center (AREC), located at 1500 Anacostia Drive. I will be giving a presentation on our biggest conservation project of the past few years, the Catoctin Mountain Water Temperature Study. In 2020 and 2021, NCC-TU collected water temp data at over 30 locations on brook trout streams in Frederick County. Come learn about what we found and what it means for our local brook trout.

Hope to see you there!
Andrew

An enthusiastic and rowdy crowd assembled at the Colony Grill for a special
fly tying event to benefit Casting for Recovery. Packets of materials were
provided to those who registered, and the organizers had to quickly
assemble more packets as demand was greater than anticipated. (thank you
Ivan!)
Once all the competitors had turned in their flies, the judges went to
work--thanks to Carolyn, Virginia, Mark, and Ivan for their discerning
examination of every entry.
Prizes went to Naomi, Josh, George, and Anthony. Congratulations!
Mark brought his bargain estaz assortments and donated his proceeds to
CfR--thank you Mark!
Other generous folks added to the collection, and the grand total for the
evening was $300.
Wow.
Thanks for helping CfR put on another fly fishing retreat for breast cancer
survivors! (It's not all about the fish...)
