{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Menhaden overfishing in the Bay

Any thoughts about how to get involved on the advocacy / conservation side of this fight? Is there a lead organization — maybe it's the Chesapeake Bay Foundation?

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Looking for Hunting parter(s)

Hey All,
First of all I know this is a fly fishing form. However I also know there is a lot of crossover between anglers and hunters. I checked with an excom member before posting this as well.

I'm looking for hunting partner(s) because several guys I've hunted with over the years have moved out of the area.  I also have a few other hunting buddies whom will be tied with work and family comments this hunting season. Thus will have very little time to hunt this year.

I'm primarily hunting in Maryland for whitetail and sika deer, waterfowl, wild turkey and doves. Although I've hunted through out the United States and Canada over the the years.
If interested in possibly hunting together please email me directly.

Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Fishing 07 September in SNP?

An update was just posted to Facebook and will go out in the morning - but the NVATU Fish With A Member event for this Saturday is changing to the Rose River (Lower); with a new meeting time and location.  Here are the details from the Facebook post:

Fish With A Member - September 7, 2024

Due to the closure of the fire road leading to the Conway River, we will instead fish the lower section of the Rose River within the Shenandoah National Park. You will need a Shenandoah Parks Pass or America the Beautiful National Parks Pass.
We will not be meeting and departing from the Starbucks at Fair Lakes. Instead we will meet at the Graves Mountain Lodge Grocery Market at 3626 Old Blue Ridge Turnpike, Syria, VA 22743 at 8:30 am on Saturday, September 7.

Come on out and meet your fellow anglers, bring your fly tying material and your fly tying questions.
We will have information on planned trips for the year as well.

The event, as usual, is open to everyone who is curious and who would like to attend.

Bring your fish stories.

Festivities begin at 7pm.

Board meeting at 6:30pm for TPFR board members.

Regan (I will be there)

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Casting for Sunday, 8 September (second Sunday of the month)

We will have our casting get together on Sunday, 8 Sep at Fletcher's Cove from 8am to 11am.

Come on out, whether you are a novice, intermediate, or advanced caster, it is all fun to work on solving casting problems and casting challenges.

Additionally, we will work on FFI Casting Skills challenges for anyone interested.

If you are just getting started, this is a great way to meet people who can help.  There will be casting instructors on hand.
If you are preparing for an upcoming trip and looking to re-fresh your casting skills, this is a great opportunity.

Regan

Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Fly patterns for fishing the Chesapeake Bay from shore ( near point lookout)

Buddy has been catching slot and puppy red drum on crab patterns. Lower Potomac fiddler crab have been hot.

Hi, I have been hitting up the bay a lot recently and really want to get something on my 11 ft switch (surf) rod from shore or wading. But, I haven't been able to catch anything. I have tied and tried clousers, turneffe crabs, 'ad krabs', schminnows, and bob popovics worm fleye. There are tons of bait fish and crabs, so those patterns should work. I am open to recommendations on patterns to try ( bonus points if they are guide flies that are quick to tie) from more experienced people in the group.

Thanks.
