Considering heading out today. I was VERY surprised this morning to see that the Little Falls gauge is actually falling (currently 4.21 ft/12,200 CFS. The turbidity numbers have also gone up a tad to 6.0 FNU, but it's below what I fished last week (about 9 FNU). Am I dreaming, or does it look like it will fish today (Thursday 3/28)? {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Who's got an opinion about The River Why?
Thank you all for your thoughtful, considered opinions. After reading about 40% of it (acc to my Kindle Paperwhite) in addition to this being my 3rd attempt, I've put it aside as just so much literate self-indulgence. It just didn't capture me, grab me, earn my enthusiastic engagement. Joseph Heywood's The Snowfly, which I read a couple of months ago (for the second time), was a much better story. {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Who's got an opinion about The River Why?
Mark, 100% worth a read. Will probably make you reevaluate why you fly fish…in a good way. I decided to never watch the movie, because the book simply doesn't need a movie adaptation. It's set in the pacific NW, which I have visited once and yet the writing about the area Gus plies with his fly rod and general fishy acumen is vivid enough to paint a near perfect picture of area. -Trent "leterate kinda TPfr contrbutar"...

I read it. Found it interesting enough to finish reading the book. Though it wasn't a real page-turner. It's not something I'd read a second time.I'd borrow it from a library rather than purchase it. Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Best Canoe / Kayak Put-In Spot on Potomac for Shad
There's a park and very limited parking on the South/Town of Occoquan (Prince William County) side of the footbridge. I thought I saw a sign last year saying that no fishing was allowed there, but Greg is right about the quality of fishing. The North/quarry side (Fairfax County) of the bridge I'm uncertain, but skeptical about how public the access is. I think boat is best there, particularly with fly rod, but...

Mark, I have not read it or any books by James Duncan. But Amazon gives it a relatively high rating. The book is available through the Fairfax library Libby App as either an E-Book or Audio book. Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} FFC Shad Report #1
Yea, tbh depending on where you live you're probably better off either making shad a weekend thing (if out towards Fredrick) or a morning before work/cut out early thing (if you reverse commute). But Violette's lock is near you and that's very good in the summer for smallmouth bass if it's a good year for bass.On Wednesday, March 20, 2024...

Greg,Is the Occoquan best fished by boat? I have found a little room on the Occoquan regional park side, for shore fishing, but be prepared for some rock hopping.I see people fish the far bank, near the water treatment plant outlet, but I have not figured out how people get there without trespassing. Maybe there is a path on the far side of the pedestrian bridge I missed?WilliamOn Mar 20, 2024, at 17:24, Gregg Rockett <grockett62@gmail.com>...
