Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} What kinda leader for snakehead

I throw steel leaders, and rarely have them break until ive had many fish on.  but id have to think a heavy fluro would work well too.  Like a 25lb test. If you fish stillwater, don't forget griffith's gnats and renegades in medium to small sizes. Deadly on Rocky Mtn stillwater. Also get some chironmid imitations for the stillwater. On Thursday, June 27, 2013 6:38:48 AM UTC-7, Dalton Terrell wrote:Drew,Trent Jones and I fished out there last year in July (report here). Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} New Reel Recommendation

I have an LLBean streamlight ultra large arbor reel that I like a lot (I have the largest size, in an 8/9).  Reels was ~$90 and spools are about $50.  Holds a good amount of line and has treated me well so far, though I've had it less than a year.  Also the warranty is pretty much unbeatable. On Thursday, June 27, 2013 1:57:42 PM UTC-4, Eric Y. wrote:It is an old Cimarron in 5/6wt. Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} New Reel Recommendation

It is an old Cimarron in 5/6wt. It has been a good reel. My mother received it as a gift at some point before 1997 (my time reference is that she owned it prior to the time when we moved to Virginia). Basically, I fished/abused it about 4x/week for around six years, on several different rods, and she used it a moderate amount until about 2005. We both fished salt with it and neither of us took much care of it. I don't...

Well I am down if we can pull some people together. As far as boats go I have a kayak for myself and a spare kayak to lend to someone if they are interested in joining. It is not really outfitted to carry flyrods but I have made it work before. I also have a fishcat 9 single person pontoon boat that I am willing to lend out if someone feels like messing with that. Very stable just a pain in the but to set up. The only other thing...

Sam, I plan to keep the boat around Needwood for the duration of the tourney. We'll see what happens as things progress. Just tied up a bunch of gar flies too as there were loads of them around the docks last year during the weigh in.  Rob Snowhite From: Sam Hauser <slhauser911@gmail.com> To: tidal-potomac-fly-rodders@googlegroups.com Sent: Thursday, June 27, 2013 9:45 AM Subject: Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders}...

I am interested but it looks like the weather is going to be really bad for it... I would still do it anyway I think but I have not figured out a strategy for snakehead after heavy rain. All my catches have been sight casting and its looking like we will be facing mudtastic conditions. Samuel, do you have any experince catching them? Or an idea for a potential gameplan? Drew,Trent Jones and I fished out there last year in July (report here). We mostly backpacked in RMNP to fish the alpine lakes, but also hit the Big Thompson inside the park and a little stream running through a campground right down the road from the YMCA. On the Big Thompson, we fished large ants, caddis, and mayflies, which all worked pretty well for the 8-12" browns, brookies and cutbows (as well as a 16-18" brown that broke...
